Blackberries have a very high vitamin content, especially vitamins C and A. They also contain sugars and are rich in calcium.
ORIGIN AND CHARACTERISTICS
Blackberries originated in Persia. In the wild form they are naturalised in many Mediterranean countries.
The blackberry is a fruit from the Rosaceae family, small, round or slightly oval, and composed of small drupelets. Its size ranges from 1.5 to 2 cm and its colour may be red or black, depending on the variety. Blackberries have a delicious sweet flavour.
STORAGE AND CONSUMPTION RECOMMENDATIONS
Blackberries are eaten raw, after gently rinsing and draining them and removing the stems. They are also used in all kinds of desserts, jams, or with yoghurt.
Blackberries can only be kept a few days in the refrigerator. Due to their fragility it is recommended to eat them soon after picking.
